Under special conditions (type of material and atmospheric conditions), electrical charges are created that can be of varying charge (field strength) depending on various factors such as:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>The material<\/strong> and its <strong>physical and electrical properties<\/strong>;<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Temperature;<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Humidity<\/strong>;<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Pressure<\/strong>;<\/li>\r\n<li>The<strong> separation speed<\/strong> of the two bodies.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>The higher the pressure or the separation speed, the greater the charge.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Scope of Application<\/h3>\r\n<p>Static electricity is <strong>a carrier of very little energy, which is formed and discharged continuously<\/strong> without attracting our attention. This can be a danger when working in contact with electronic circuits because it could cause fires at any time.<br \/><strong>Antistatic<\/strong> workwear has several scopes, such as:<\/p>\r\n<ul style=\"list-style: inside;\">\r\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\r\n<ul style=\"list-style: inside;\">\r\n<li><strong>Electronic<\/strong> and <strong>electrotechnical<\/strong> companies;<\/li>\r\n<li>Health:<strong> dental practices, analysis laboratory, radiology, cardiology, hyperbaric chamber, operating theatres;<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Chemical<\/strong> companies;<\/li>\r\n<li>Companies with<strong> spray booths and paint factories<\/strong>;<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Storage areas for goods<\/strong>,<strong> gas<\/strong> and <strong>flammable material<\/strong>;<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Automotive<\/strong> industries;<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Oil<\/strong> industries or <strong>distributors of energy sources<\/strong>;<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>ATEX (ATmosphere EXplosives) areas<\/strong> that involve an atmosphere in which there is a mixture of <strong>flammable substances<\/strong> (in the form of gas, vapours, mists or combustibles) with air or comburent. In certain atmospheric conditions and specific concentrations, if ignited, the combustion spreads to the flammable mixture causing explosions.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Accidents resulting from the accumulation of static electricity are more common than we imagine: in the UK alone, <strong>more than one occurs every week<\/strong>. It is therefore important to identify general prevention and protection criteria in advance.<\/p>\r\n<h3>General requirements<\/h3>\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3433\" src=\"https:\/\/abbigliamentocertificato.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ragazza.jpg\" alt=\"camice donna bianco antinfortunistico antistatico\" width=\"290\" height=\"355\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<p><strong>The general requirements<\/strong> of antistatic workwear, according to the UNI EN 1149-5:2018 standard, must have specific characteristics, such as:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>They must cover the body<\/strong> and other non-antistatic clothing to ensure protection from risk;;<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Accessories<\/strong> that make up the garment (such as labels and reflective strips) <strong>must be permanently attached<\/strong> to <strong>the garment<\/strong>;<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Conductive parts<\/strong> such as zippers or buttons <strong>are allowed<\/strong> <strong>only if covered by the outermost material<\/strong>;<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>They must have points of contact with the body<\/strong> (conductive element);<\/li>\r\n<li>Garments <strong>must be continuously earthed<\/strong> and therefore combined with specific footwear or the presence of earth floors or cables.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>Carbon fibre<\/strong> has the ability to neutralize electrical charges and dissipate them, therefore it is very suitable for this type of safety clothing.<\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">More on the EN 1149-5 standard<\/h2>\r\n<p>In addition to the <strong>UNI EN 1149-5:2018<\/strong> standard, there are supplementary standards specifying the test methods to be adopted with regard to antistatic workwear:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>UNI EN 1149-1:2006:<\/strong> <strong>To avoid discharges that can trigger fires<\/strong>, this standard specifies a test method for materials intended for the manufacture of electrostatically charged dissipating protective clothing (or gloves). The method does not apply to materials used in the manufacture of protective clothing or gloves against normal electrical voltages;<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>UNI EN 1149-2:1999<\/strong>: This standard measures <strong>the vertical electrical resistance of the materials making up the protective clothing<\/strong>. The standard is not applicable for protection against mains voltage.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>UNI EN 1149-3:2005<\/strong>: This standard specifies the methods for measuring the dissipation of electrostatic charges from the surfaces of clothing materials.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Fabrics<\/h3>\r\n<p>Speaking of antistatic workwear, it is important to know that it can be made with two fabric types: with antistatic fabrics or with antistatic fibres.<br \/>Unlike surface treatments, the properties of <strong>the antistatic fibre<\/strong> are an <strong>intrinsic and permanent feature of the garment.<\/strong> This allows the garment to perform better.<br \/>Antistatic fabrics can be presented in two ways:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>with <strong>a conductive surface grid<\/strong>.
